Closing the Loop on Solvent-Based Formulations
Agrospear has announced a sustainability initiative: a green formulation program that transitions solvent-based emulsifiable concentrate (EC) products to water-based suspension concentrate (SC) and water-dispersible granule (WDG) alternatives.
The program targets three pillars of sustainable agrochemical manufacturing:
- Reduced-solvent formulations — replacing EC products (which can contain 40–60% organic solvents) with water-based SC and WDG formulations that drastically reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and handler exposure
- Biopesticide development — investing in formulation R&D for microbial and botanical active ingredients, including stabilized suspension systems for biofungicides and bionematicides
- Sustainable packaging — transitioning to recyclable HDPE containers and reducing single-use packaging across the product line
Every reformulated product is validated against the same field-efficacy benchmarks and analytical quality standards as its EC predecessor before entering the product catalog. Shelf-life, suspensibility, and phytotoxicity testing confirm that the water-based alternatives deliver equivalent or superior performance.
The green-formulation products are being phased into the Agrospear catalog beginning Q3 2026.
The initiative aligns with the facility's documented environmental management work and supports the company's broader commitment to sustainable agrochemical manufacturing.
