ODM Development Project
From Concept to 200 Tons: ODM Herbicide Development for a Southeast Asian Brand
A Southeast Asian crop-protection brand wanted its own herbicide formulation — developed to its performance targets, with registration documentation and formulation ownership — without building a formulation lab of its own.

The Story
From Challenge to Delivered Formulations
The Challenge
No in-house formulation lab, no manufacturing experience, and a first order that must pass local registration requirements before it can be sold. The brand needed formulation ownership — not a toll-blending arrangement.
Our Solution
ODM formulation development from the brand's performance targets, lab-scale optimization followed by pilot-batch verification, 200 tons produced with the verified formulation, and full registration documentation and formulation ownership transferred to the brand.
Controlled Delivery
Quality & Delivery Control Lines
Quality and Inspection Controls
Quality Basis:
Approved sample, technical specification, customer-approved BOM, label reference and packing requirements.
Inspection Focus:
- Active-ingredient assay against the ODM target
- Formulation stability data verification
- Labeling accuracy against registration-submitted artwork
- COA consistency per batch
- Packaging integrity for tropical logistics
Issue Control:
Non-conforming items were placed under controlled hold and re-inspected after approved corrective action.
Evidence:
Batch-level inspection records and packing checks retained by project, linked to the approved sample and specification.
Production and Delivery Controls
Planning Inputs:
Approved sample · final label design · packaging configuration · packaging readiness · confirmed order quantity.
Milestones:
Sample approval → production release → production scheduling → final inspection → packing verification → shipment preparation.
Delivery Readiness:
SKU configuration, labeling, safety data sheets, barcodes, carton marking and packing quantity verified before shipment release.
Outcome:
200 tons · registration granted · formulation owned by the brand.
Configuration
Customized Product Configuration
Elements defined, approved and locked with the client before production.
- Herbicide formulation developed from the brand's performance and cost targets
- Lab-scale optimization and pilot-batch verification
- Registration documentation package for the target market
- Formulation ownership transferred to the brand
- Branded packaging and labeling per market requirements
- COA format and stability data aligned to registration needs
Process
How the Project Ran
- 1
Concept & targets
Crop, weed spectrum, application method and cost targets set the formulation direction.
- 2
Formulation development
Lab-scale optimization followed by pilot-batch verification.
- 3
Sample approval
Physical sample confirmed performance, stability and packaging.
- 4
200-ton production
Volume produced with the verified formulation, COAs per batch, registration docs prepared.
The Result
The 200-ton first season sold through; registration was granted on the submitted documentation, and the brand owns the formulation for future production anywhere.
