SC is the most widely used modern agrochemical formulation type. Agrospear produces SC formulations with D90 < 5μm particle size and >90% suspension rate.

Suspension Concentrate (SC) is the most widely used modern agrochemical formulation type worldwide. The active ingredient is milled to fine solid particles and suspended in a water-based carrier with dispersants, wetting agents and thickeners, producing a stable, pourable suspension that mixes readily with water for spray application.
How SC formulation works
The active ingredient is reduced to particles with a D90 below 5 μm through wet milling in a bead mill or sand mill. These fine particles are then stabilized in water using a carefully balanced system of dispersants (to prevent settling and agglomeration), thickeners (to control viscosity and prevent hard packing), and wetting agents (to ensure rapid dispersion when the farmer adds the product to the spray tank). Antifoam agents and preservatives round out the formulation.
Benefits of SC formulations
SC formulations combine the performance advantages of fine-particle application with the handling safety of a water-based system:
- No dust — liquid formulation eliminates operator exposure to airborne active ingredient during measuring and pouring
- Easy to measure and pour — calibrated viscosity and no caking mean accurate dosing straight from the bottle
- High bio-efficacy — sub-5 μm particle size gives excellent leaf coverage and uptake, often outperforming WP at the same dose
- Safe handling — water-based carrier replaces organic solvents, reducing toxicity and flammability risks
- Environmentally preferable — lower VOC content than EC formulations, no solvent waste
Agrospear SC specifications
Every SC batch produced at Agrospear meets or exceeds these validated specifications:
| Parameter | Specification | |-----------|--------------| | Particle size (D90) | < 5 μm | | Suspension rate (30 min) | > 90% | | Accelerated stability | Pass at 54°C / 14 days | | Pourability | > 95% | | Shelf life | 2 years at ambient storage | | Persistent foam (1 min) | < 60 mL |
The 54°C / 14-day accelerated stability test is the industry standard for predicting 2-year shelf performance. Agrospear validates every formulation through this protocol before release, and the >90% suspension rate after 30 minutes ensures that the active ingredient stays uniformly distributed in the spray tank — no sediment, no dose variation across the field.
Production at Agrospear
SC production runs on a dedicated wet-milling line equipped with horizontal bead mills, high-shear premix vessels and automated filling. Raw materials are tested on arrival; milled slurry is checked for particle size distribution before discharge; finished product is tested for suspension rate, viscosity and accelerated stability before batch release.
